Research : Our Sub-Genre of Music Videos - RnB Music Videos

The Genre we intend to follow is R&B as we carried out a research in this genre by watching many different  R&B music videos and analysing them, trying to fint out there typical codes and conventions. Most R&B music video's are based on the artists (they are the protagnist) and these video's usually tell a story. The way the artists and characters look in these video's is quiet important as the main focus of this genre is showing off because the music companys want the audience of this genre to look up at the artist and follow them as a role model etc. This is done by showing the artists own a lot of expensive things i the video eg Posh Cars, expensive jewellery etc. Alot of different lighting is used n R&B videos to make the video look more interesting and the characters look more attractive.

Below are few examples of a few music videos we analysed from the R&B Genre:

Chris Brown - Forever

This video follows the typical conventions of the R&B genre as this video is based on the main artist Chris Brown. The Mise en scene is typical for the R&B Genre as Chris brown is dressed in urban clothing and has a lot of bling eg: earring as the way artists look in R&B videos is very important. This video also shows Chris Brown having expensive items as in the beginning of the video chris brown enters with a expensive car. This makes the audience look up to him.

Craig David - Insomnia

This video also follows the typical R&B genre conventions as it is all studio based again the artist is dressed to look attractive so the audience look up to him eg: his shades. However the shades don't only help the artist look attractive it also helps the lighting used in this video look more interesting as the lighting is reflected onto his shades. The female character in this video is dressed in shiny revealing clothing so it grabs the audiences attention, and shiny clothing also makes her look rich, so its full filling the R&B genre convention of 'showing off'
